The goal is to have completely spot free windows without the time and labour of climbing up to every window and squeegeeing them. This is where the science comes in.
All tap water, whether in the house or on the outside of the house has what is called solids in the water. This may be calcium, iron, phosphates, chlorine etc. These are solids that come naturally from the earth (chlorine is also added in city water).
The goal is to remove these solids so the water is pure. Even bottled water has some solids in it. We, Twice as Nice cleaning use what's called a super filter to remove these solids and we measure the water using a meter called a TDS meter (Total Dissolved Solids meter).
We hook up the filter to the outside tap and run the water for 2 minutes, then we put our meter on it. The meter measures the solids in the water and it usually reads from 0-5.
The average reading without the filter reads around 35-45. As long as the meter reads below 18 the water is pure enough to wash the windows without leaving spots.
This is the latest discovery in the window washing industry and has lowered the cost of labour as it is much more efficient to clean windows this way.
