How much debris weight can your gutters hold?

Date Posted : June 24, 2024

Recently we were called to a property in South Surrey where a homeowner said that the gutter line along his upper deck started sagging noticeably. Upon inspection, we discovered that it was almost 30% full with complete muck of organic mutters and debris!

Avoid structural damage to your property by cleaning your gutters once a year!

Once we started cleaning it, we realized the weight of those debris in the gutter line was so great to a point that we had to clean it one foot at a time. And after countless ups and downs on our 12 feet ladder, carrying bucket full of muck each time, it took us over 2 hours to clean it completely and thoroughly.

And when we hand-weighted the total debris we removed from up there, we could confidently say that it was over 50 lbs of muddy muck! Considering the deck is only 8 feet by 16 feet, it is an enormous weight for the gutter line to hold. In winter times it can freeze and expand, increasing the potential risk of a structural damage.

We wrapped up our job by giving the exterior of the gutter line a gentle washing as well.

That’s why keeping your gutters cleaned once a year is so important and we make a living by doing exactly that.

Now you know your gutters are not meant to collect and hold enormous weight!
